Residence in Cyprus: how long you can be away
Cyprus residence permits can be cancelled if you are absent for too long. The temporary “pink slip” is strict; permanent residence is far more relaxed.
Temporary residence (pink slip)
A temporary residence permit — the so-called pink slip — may be cancelled after three continuous months of absence from Cyprus. If you hold one, avoid leaving the island for more than about three months at a stretch.
Permanent residence (Category F)
A Category F permanent immigration permit may be cancelled after two years of continuous absence from Cyprus. In practice, visit at least once within any two-year period to keep it alive.
The pink slip’s limit is about a single continuous absence, so short trips home reset the stretch. Confirm your case with the Civil Registry and Migration Department — this is general information, not legal advice.
How to keep track
- On a pink slip, watch your longest single absence — keep it under three months.
- On Category F, make sure no gap between visits reaches two years.
- A short return to Cyprus restarts the continuous-absence count.
